Construction crews in New York shut down a street in the Flatiron dominion yesterday after accidentally cut into up a bomb . But they soon discovered that this dud was n’t filled with explosive . astonishingly , the strange , metal artefact was filled with paper letter and photograph . Yes , this turkey was actually a clip capsule , in the first place buried in the 1980s .
The bomb team was squall out and crew shut down 21st Street , in between 5th and sixth Avenues . Some people even posted photos and video recording of the bomb tosocial mediabefore they knew what it was .
One Twitter user proclaimed that the NYPD “ literally found a turkey on 21st Street . ”

But after examining the object , NYPD discovered that the nonoperational bomb was filled with letter and photograph from 1985 , eat up by the owners of the legendary ( and now closed ) Danceteria nightclub . The building is now office space , but construction crews were doing work to convert the space yet again into apartment .
The Danceteria , open from 1979 until 1986 , is perhaps most renowned for Madonna ’s club scene in the 1985 filmDesperately attempt Susan .

The NYPD called John Argento , the previous proprietor of the club , and asked him what the deal was . He explained that they had purchased the bomb calorimeter from an Army Surplus storehouse and hang it inside the club for yr before deciding to reverse it into a time capsule . Argento and his partner had encouraged clubgoers and musicians to fill the capsule with mementos , to be opened in 10,000 year .
“ It was a great exculpation to have two great parties , ” Argento recite New York magazine’sDaily Intelligencerblog . “ We can have a party when we will fill it , and we can have a 2nd company when we solemnly bring down it into the ground . ”
A third party to open it up was n’t to be , of course . The old time capsule did n’t make it 10,000 years into the time to come , let alone thirty . Everything inside the time capsule , which was buried underneath a parking lot , has reportedly been ruin by water damage , though Argento wo n’t live for certain that all is fall behind until the city give him self-control of the ejection seat . The NYPD is holding on to it for a few more days so that a right search can be conducted of the point .

It turns out that sure-enough Looney Tunes - style bombs do n’t make the best fourth dimension abridgment , if you desire the items at bottom to stick around for very long . If you really desire your time capsulize to see the future , you should probably get your advice from expert , like the good folks at the Smithsonian , who havetips and antic for preservation .
As we ’ve said many time here at Paleofuture , burying things in the ground is quite literally theworst potential way to carry on things for the future . But we ’ll keep doing it . Because we never learn .
