Last calendar month , a ill worded turn of phrasefrom Disney CEO Bob Iger set Star Wars fans ablaze , worry that the Han Solo spinoff moving picture would be about the young contrabandist “ pay back his name . ” The internetpanickedwildlythat Han Solo ’s actual name suddenly was n’t Han Solo . Everyone can becalm the hell down now .
Iger actually meant it would be about Han “ pull in a name for himself , ” as in , “ establish his reputation as a dark-skinned moon-curser joyride around in the fastest lump of dust in the galaxy . ” But that did n’t stopendless , feverishspeculationthat Iger somehow distinctly meant the Han Solo movie would be about Han getting the name ‘ Han Solo , ’ and before he was ‘ Han Solo ’ he was probably bring up something like Clive or Herbert .
While this was always the obvious stopping point to sop up , it has also been confirmed good manners of a fresh interview with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy , conducted by MTV at Star Wars Celebration this past weekend :

I ’m not certain that that ’s solely what Bob imply . There ’s more to Han Solo ’s name , but it ’s not that it ’s not his name . It ’s obviously his name . It will always be his name !

Kennedy does leave some things open to mystery , by say there ’s more to his name than we antecedently knew , but it ’s always been his name , as the Force mean ( credibly , you hump how the Force works ) . So rest assured , the movie is n’t about some scraggy kid name Gary Smugglinton who decide he needed a much cool name before he could do the Kessel Run .

The somehow - still - untitled Han Solo flick is expected to premier May 25 , 2018 .
