All weekend , everywhere I appear online , people are hollering aboutmother ! , Aronofsky ’s latest phantasmagoric film about a poet , a house , and his supernaturally long - suffering wife .
Now , Aronofsky himself has weighed in , offering his own interpretation on some key happenings in the flick .
Talking toEntertainment Weekly , he specifically lays out his idea regarding the film as a Biblical parable . The pop possibility about the photographic film posits that the many characters who appear in the nursing home of Mother ( Jennifer Lawrence ) and the Poet ( Javier Bardem ) throughout the pic are depicted with gravelly Biblical analogues in mind , a theory that transubstantiate the film into a sort of broad depiction of the toll human beings and its history has taken on the satellite , here cast as a mother figure .
So says Aronofsky : Yup . Yeah , that ’s pretty much it .
“ I insure this parable , one that I am passionate about , and it check up dead , ” he told EW . “ Once I realized I could rely on the smashing stories of the Bible I cogitate it would be a very interesting marraige there — all these unlike streams that variety of weave together and become a river . ”
