Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessis a week aside , and we ’re happy to account it starts very strong . Marvel Studiosscreened 20 bit from the film at CinemaCon 2022 , and it cut down you right back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with several exciting action scenesright from the start . We ’ll report them below , but if you contrive on seeing unusual next week , this is all spoilers .
The film opens in the middle of a monumental action set piece . A ponytailed , multiverse Doctor Strange ( Benedict Cumberbatch ) andAmerica Chavez(Xochitl Gomez ) are running and jump off through a mysterious , purple world with debris everywhere — you’ve seen it in trailers . They ’re being chased by a sinewy monster not unlike the high-risk guys from Edge of Tomorrow . Strange and Chavez adjudicate to freeze it , but it ’s only a temporary beguilement , and Strange warn America that they ca n’t get the demon slip her power .
The duo attempt to get to a particular weapons platform with a magical book of account . They run and climb up over the debris like it ’s a video biz , but the demon catches up and stabs Strange . Steven casts a charm at the fauna , halt it again , but says it ’s too powerful . It get to check out of his trap , as his combat injury keeps suppurate . He then apologizes to America distinguish her “ this is the only way , ” as he begins to nurse her force out of her . unusual believes she ca n’t cover the powers , but he can . She ’s scared and angry — unknown is trying to obliterate her , and she tell she retrieve they were friends . He explain that , in thegrand strategy of the multiverse , her death is a worthy forfeiture . But before he can finish , Strange is stabbed again by the creature , this time through the chest . He ’s dead . She ’s captured . It ’s over . But then America engender very raging , and conjures a huge principal shaped field of big businessman behind her , that seems to slow the monster down . The dying Strange then , with his last breath , frees her from the teras ’s clutch …

Only to awaken up in bed back in New York . Now it ’s our Dr. Strange . It was all a dream .
Strange gets dressed and heads to a wedding party . A few hoi polloi there seem uncomfortable that he ’s there but Michael Stuhlbarg ’s character , Nicodemus West , from the first Doctor Strange is there to greet him . The duo talk , and we find out they were both blipped . In that clip , Dr. West lost his cat and brother and he wonders if there was any other means . Strange excuse that there was n’t . “ The best surgeon and the best hero , but you did n’t get the girl , ” West state to exchange subject , and we reveal that it ’s the wedding of Christine Palmer ( Rachel McAdams ) , as she begins walking down the aisle .
After the observance Strange is standing at the prevention , drinking a martini , and Christine comes by . She say that her husband Charlie is a fully grown devotee and would like to meet him but he wants to get serious — he apologizes for how he treat her , and she says it never would have worked out anyway . They just need each other to be well-chosen — and while Christine really is , Strange lies that he is , too .

Just then , there ’s a disturbance on the street . Everyone runs alfresco and it ’s obvious something defective is pass . foreign then jumps off the balcony , changing into his tiptop suit mid escape , and fly down to the commotion . Something unseeable is smashing up a bus and foreign reveals that it ’s a monolithic , interdimensional Octopus , Gargantos — which we ’ve seen in early merchandise and in trailer snippers — and it ’s going after the same miss from his dreaming , who he recognize trying to flee the chaos .
What espouse is a massively awesome set piece where unknown , his cape , and Wong ( Benedict Wong ) all combine to make unnecessary America and destroy the brute . Some highlights along the way are thatpatented Sam Raimi POV shots , even from the perspective of the teras , as well as a grisly , excellent way the freak is defeated . It ’s a very satisfying chronological sequence . After the battle , America tries to get by but the two sorcerers turn back her . They sit down at a pizza place and she explains why she was being chase by the monster — that it want her power to move around across multiverses . They do n’t believe her , until she takes them to the body of the other Doctor Strange . They realise they need to keep this lady friend safe , but she ’s worried . How can she be certain this Strange wo n’t betray her like the other one , she call for ? unusual and Wong bring in that these devil and monster are the product of witchcraft , not magic , and Wong asks him if he knows anyone with that sort of experience … which of track , Strange does .
Yup , it ’s clip for Wanda Maximoff . We see her in her home , making solid food with her kids , tuck them in at night . The WandaVision music play subtly in the background . She seems very happy but then we realize … she too is dreaming , like Strange was . She ’s actually alone , in bed , in a quiet sleeping room . Strange express up on Wanda ’s farm and most of what follows has been in the trailers . She thinks he ’s there to admonish her for what chance in Westview , but he excuse he call for to make love about the multiverse , tells her about America , and involve if Wanda will go back with him to Kamar - Taj . He said he could use an Avenger — and this might get her back on the lunchbox .

If this is the first 20 mo of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness , it ’s off to a very good offset . dynamical action , emotional moments , good grapheme development , and circumstances of MCU connection . If the movie keeps on that trajectory , it should be a wild drive when we get to see the rest of it from May 6 .
