Wow . If you ’ve not been stay fresh up with IDW ’s fantabulous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic by Tom Waltz and Kevin Eastman , you might have just pretermit out on a jaw - drop turn of events for everyone ’s favorite mutant animal ninjas . Be warned : major spoiler beyond the cut !

Waltz and Eastman ’s run on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been defined by its draught back to the characters original , darker beginning in the funnies , rather than the zany , pizza pie - loving partial of the classic cartoon — but the forty-fourth issue , out yesterday , ended on a game - change turn of events that certainly delivers on the dark .
Donatello is dead . And not just deadened dead , he literally get his shell smashed in by Bebop and Rocksteady . WHAT THE WHAT .
To catch you up if you ’ve not been following along , the turtle go out Donatello behind to support them from their base as they tried to stop Krang from terraforming the world with an alien gadget . Bebop and Rocksteady , set on the base , and although the lone turtle put up a fight , it unluckily ended gruesomely for Donatello : Rocksteady landing the killing blow , shatter the polo-neck ’s shell widely open .
Jesus H. Christ . This is not your childhood Ninja Turtles ! Well , unless your childhood Ninja Turtles was the original Kevin Eastman / Peter Laird comics , but even then , JESUS H. CHRIST .
Now of course , expiry is perhaps more fluid in the world of comical books , and lets be reliable , it ’s not the first timesomething hugely messed up has happenedto one of the four turtles in their farseeing comic history , but still , a view like this is shocking and grievous :
Who knows whether Donatello will miraculously survive his fatal wounding at some clip down the business , but even if he does , for now there are only three Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles .
You hear that ? That ’s the auditory sensation of roughly a million childhood innocences shatter into piece . Great work , TMNT . I mean , serious lord , but still , great oeuvre .
